Building a culture of safe and sustainable travel

In 2026 the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace continues its sustained effort to strengthen road safety and promote sustainable mobility, delivering an integrated programme of activities addressed to citizens, school pupils, institutions, businesses and the whole local community.

The aim is to build a new culture of safe and sustainable travel, working towards fewer — and ultimately zero — road traffic accidents across Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.

16 September WEDNESDAY

Live prize draw — Sustainable Mobility & Road Safety Ambassadors

The prize draw for the Ambassadors' Register, streamed live for everyone to follow.

The draw takes place live among everyone who signed up to the Electronic Register of Sustainable Mobility and Road Safety Ambassadors 2026. The prizes are one (1) electric bicycle and three (3) bicycle helmets.

Children's Bicycle Festival — Xanthi

A full day celebrating the bicycle, safe travel and getting to know the city.

  • Free entry

The morning programme is for school groups, with a bicycle-safety session and the guided walks «Getting to know my city on foot» through the Old Town of Xanthi. The afternoon programme is for children and families, with a bike-handling skills race on an obstacle course, a DJ set and the awards.

Organised by the Directorate of Transport and Communications of the Regional Unit of Xanthi, together with Alternative ROUTE Social Cooperative and the Xanthi Cycling Club «Pegasus».

Conference «Mobility for everyone – Fairness between generations»

Komotini Concert Hall — with speakers from the European Commission, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the education community.

2nd FORUM of the Transport and Communications Services of the Greek Regions

«Circulation of road transport vehicles and motorcycles: application of current legislation and proposals for improving and developing the transport sector and better serving citizens».

Officials from the Directorates of Transport and Communications of every Greek Region, together with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Digital Governance and the National Transparency Authority, record practical problems and put forward proposals — from vehicle transfers and registrations to the digital services for vehicle licensing. Electronic Register of Sustainable Mobility & Road Safety Ambassadors 2026

As part of «European Mobility Week 2026 in the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace», the Region created the Electronic Register of Sustainable Mobility and Road Safety Ambassadors 2026, inviting everyone who wishes to contribute actively to spreading responsible road behaviour to take part in the initiative.

  • Because every safe journey starts with one personal commitment.
  • Ambassadors enter an online prize draw for one (1) electric bicycle and three (3) bicycle helmets.
  • The draw takes place live on Wednesday 16 September, 10:00 – 12:00, streamed on the Region's YouTube channel.

Applications to join the Ambassadors' Register have closed. The draw is held among the entries submitted within the deadline.
